Dearly beloved,
We gather here today because the massive electrical storms predicted for tomorrow may wipe out the Internet – forever. The death of the Internet will be the death of my online livelihood and of all of my online relationships that I cherish. I’m having a really hard time with this, so please forgive me while I wax poetic about the last things I want you, my online friends, to know before we lose contact.
I may seem like a real extrovert on Twitter, but I’m frighteningly shy in person. I thrive on the online interactions we’ve shared over the past few years. You guys are real friends to me. I just wish we could all live on a little writers’ commune so we could always be together.
Without the Internet, it may be harder to accomplish, but make sure you’re doing what you love! I love to write. I’m lucky enough to make a living at it now. Losing my virtual audience is heartbreaking, but I’ll find another outlet.
What else do I love? My husband, my son, my family… of course. But I’ve hidden some of the things I love for a long time because I didn’t want to be judged. Who’s going to judge me now? I’m a geek, and I’m proud of it! I’m obsessed with Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. I am so entrenched in our Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader campaigns that I’m putting together a cosplay Sister of Battle outfit. And I’m going to look hot! I’ve written approximately 100k words in WH40K fanfic. The Black Library will publish me one day.
I’m a child rights advocate, an environmentalist, a medical mess… Don’t forget me when the Internet is gone.
Yours truly,
Christina Gleason
This post is an entry into Mabel’s Labels BlogHer ’10 Contest. I’m hoping to win a BlogHer scholarship and a year-long contract as a Mabel’s Labels blogger. I’d love to read your comments… and I’m sure Mabel’s Labels would love to read them, too!

It is amazing the doors that can be opened to opportunities and people’s hearts through the power of blogging. You made a fab point about how the people you have met through this online world are Real Friends – many outside of the community don’t realize that. It will be important for us to set up those writers communes before the storm comes so when it has passed, we will know which direction to head.
Thank you for your entry Christina! Good luck!
Great post! Good luck with the contest
I love Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series too. I have to re-read the entire series before I tackle the latest one
Great post! It is amazing to think of how the Internet has changed lives in so many positive ways. How can we ever thank Al Gore for inventing it? LOL
Best of luck in the contest. Being a Mabel’s Blogger would be a great thing. Mabel’s rocks.
Caitlin,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by! I hope I get the opportunity to work with you.
Carrie,
I have to re-read the entire series now that I’ve finished the latest book. There are character interactions that I need to go back and check out now that new information has come to light. The Gathering Storm is now my favorite book in the series!
Shelly,
I’ll have to send my regards to Al Gore. Hehe.
Love it! If the internet were not such a big part of my life, I never would have met you and that would be a loss. Wishing you the best and hoping you win this contest!
